The collision of camp and Temple Shalom

My oldest children have been talking a lot about missing their summer camp and counting the days until they go back. Something about the cold winter months has them longing for the summer and the freedom and spirit of camp. I am blessed to be able to send Sam and Ada, who are almost nine, to the same Jewish summer camp in Indiana where I grew up as well. It was there that I first felt the power of living on Jewish time and created friendships that have always sustained me.
The music of camp has become the soundtrack of my life, from harmonious prayer to the spirited songs of the early Israeli pioneers and classic 1970’s folk songs – it’s all burned into my soul and just a few notes can bring memories flooding back to me.
With all of this in mind, it is with tremendous excitement that my dear camp friend and song leader, Cantor Rosalie Boxt, is coming to Temple Shalom as our Altshuler Scholar-in-Residence this weekend. Rosalie is a gifted spiritual leader, and I am thrilled to have my camp and current worlds collide during her visit. I encourage everyone to join us for one or all of Cantor Boxt’s programs during the weekend especially the concert on Saturday night. More information and registration details can be found on our website.
Ellie Goldman is the Executive Director of Temple Shalom.
