Goal: $200,000 by Giving Tuesday, December 2nd.
Temple Shalom recently received a federal security grant that would have helped us continue strengthening our building so that all of us—clergy, staff, children, and grandchildren—are as safe as possible. The grant, however, came with conditions that would have required us to compromise our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI).
Our Board unanimously said no. We chose our values—welcoming everyone and living our tradition—over funding with strings attached.
We still need to ensure our building is as safe and welcoming as our community. That’s why we’re launching Securing Our Future: A Campaign to Strengthen Temple Shalom, raising $200,000 by Giving Tuesday to fund security upgrades recommended by experts, including Newton Police and CJP.
This campaign is about more than equipment or facilities. It’s a way for our community to stand together, uphold our values, and recommit to a safe, welcoming space for everyone who walks through our doors.
