Fiscal Year 2025-2026

What is Shalom Commitment?

At Temple Shalom, we invite our members to make an annual membership gift through Shalom Commitment—our voluntary, self-directed contribution model. Instead of traditional dues, members determine their own financial commitment, guided by suggested levels that reflect the true cost of sustaining our vibrant synagogue life.
Our approach is grounded in inclusivity and trust. Every household is welcome, regardless of financial ability. At the same time, we rely on each member’s generosity to meet the real costs of operating Temple Shalom, which total more than $3.8 million annually.  To sustain and strengthen our community, we are aiming to raise $1.5 million through Shalom Commitment.  We ask that you consider both your personal circumstances and your dedication to this community as you make your decision on the amount you pledge.

Every Gift Matters!

No matter the amount, your membership includes:
♦  Full access to worship and programs
♦  High Holy Day services
♦  Pastoral support from our Clergy
♦  Security fees
♦  Inclusion in the Book of Memory
Your generosity ensures that everyone who wants to engage in Jewish life at Temple Shalom can do so, and that we remain strong and welcoming for generations to come.

Thank you for your continued commitment to Temple Shalom.

Shalom Commitment Payment Policy

Effective for Fiscal Year 2025–2026

At Temple Shalom, anyone is welcome to worship on Shabbat regardless of membership or payments.  The Board of Trustees, who has fiduciary oversight of Temple Shalom, adopted the following policy in April, 2025 regarding Shalom Commitment to provide clear expectations of membership requirements and ensure the financial health of the congregation.  Financial predictability is critical to running all aspects of our congregation.

♦  No one will be turned away from Shabbat worship due to inability to pay
♦  What members owe the community is to be a “member in good standing” which means either:
♦  Paying a Shalom Commitment and other fees (school, b’mitzvah, social hall rental, etc.) according to the schedule set forth, OR
♦  Reaching out to the Senior Director of Development and Membership to develop an alternative payment plan.
♦  If someone has not paid and is unwilling to develop a payment plan with the Membership Director, they may no longer participate in non-worship activities    and high holiday services.

The following outlines payment expectations:
♦  Previous year’s commitments must be paid in full by the end of the fiscal year, which is June 30.
♦  The new fiscal year’s first Shalom Commitment payment must be paid no later than one week before the start of the High Holy Days in order to register for High Holy Day services.  The specific date will be communicated at the start of each fiscal year, which is July 1.
♦  Please note that for those who can, it greatly benefits Temple Shalom when members pay their full Shalom Commitment at one time.
♦  This excludes those who are actively paying on a previously agreed upon payment plan from the previous fiscal year that may go into the first few months of the new fiscal year.
♦  If a member has fully paid the previous year’s fees but has not submitted a Shalom Commitment for the current fiscal year by one week after Sukkot, a membership will be assumed. A Shalom Commitment will then be assigned and billed at 3% above the previous year’s amount.
♦  If no payment is made toward the assigned Shalom Commitment—or alternative arrangements are not made with the Senior Director of Development and Membership by December 30, the member will be considered resigned.

Temple Shalom remains committed to the belief that financial constraints should never be a barrier to membership or participation. If you are unable to meet the payment expectations outlined above, please reach out to Lovelynn Ivey, Senior Director of Development and Membership to confidentially arrange an alternative plan at livey@templeshalom.org.

We are here for you—and we thank you for being here for our community.
