“For
my house shall be a house of prayer for all people” (Isaiah 56:5).

At Temple Shalom, we are proud of our longstanding commitment to being a place where all are welcome.
Each February, along with Jewish communities around the world, we celebrate Jewish Disability Awareness and Inclusion Month (JDAIM). We schedule special programs and bring in incredible speakers to help us gather momentum and renew our individual and communal commitments to being a community in which people with disabilities can participate fully.
Next week, in MINCHA, our inclusive middle school education program, our 6th-8th graders will be learning from adults with disabilities. A panel of adults with Cerebral Palsy, Deafness, and Down syndrome will share with our middle schoolers about their experiences being both excluded and included.
Duringour annual Inclusion Shabbat next Friday, February 9th, we will learn from inclusion expert and attorney Matan Koch. Matan, who was appointed by President Barack Obama to the National Council on Disability, has been a supporter of the inclusion work at Temple Shalom for many years. Please join me on February 9th, and all throughout February, in honoring our differences and mobilizing for the important holy work still to come.
Emily Kieval is the Temple's Director of Inclusion.
