Session 1: Learning to Listen: The Sound and Symbolism of the Shofar
Learn the history of the shofar, our responsibility when we hear the shofar’s awesome call and practice together how one might become a shofarist. Or at least learn how to make a sound from the shofar so that you can join the clergy and community on the bima at the end of Yom Kippur when we all sound together the mighty tekiah gedolah! Temple Shalom members Michael Hecht and David Fineman, both experienced ba’alei tekiah (shofar blasters), will facilitate this fun class.

Session 2: Apples and Honey: A High Holy Days Dessert Primer
What’s the big deal about apples and honey? Come to a night of conversation and demonstration about apples, honey and all the other desserts we love to make and eat during the holidays. Bring ideas, recipes, and tastes of your favorite holiday desserts. Temple Shalom members Mary Jane Suzman and Carol Berlin will lead.

Session 3: Returning Home: A Spiritual "To Do" List for the High Holy Days
The holidays offer a chance to reflect and renew. There are many ways in which to engage in this regular practice of chesbon hanefesh (“an accounting of our souls”) so that we might enter the new year with clear intentions and focus. Join Rabbis Abrasley and Berry for an evening of ways to enter this practice using ancient texts, modern poetry, and thoughtful conversation.
