The Oasis of Peace (Neve Shalom/Wahat al-Salam) is an intentional Palestinian-Jewish village in Israel. For 40 years it has demonstrated how Palestinians and Jews can live together productively and collaboratively. For more information about the Village, see www.oasisofpeace.org

In December of 2022, Temple Shalom hosted a very successful visit and presentation by two residents of the Village. But, since October 7, 2023, as you certainly know, there has been war and enormous turmoil in Israel, and this has had serious and painful implications for Palestinian-Jewish relationships within Israel and within the Village. For over 30 years the Village, through its School for Peace, has facilitated hundreds of Palestinian-Jewish dialogues and has done so with special intensity in the last few months. Some of these dialogues have involved Palestinians and Jews living and working in the Village; others have been with Palestinians and Jews in Israel but not in the Village.

On May 19, at 1:00 PM there will be a Zoom conversation between congregants of Temple Shalom and facilitators at the Oasis of Peace. The facilitators will present examples of the Palestinian-Jewish tensions both inside the Village and in Israel generally, and describe the way the facilitators have worked with these tensions. This is an opportunity to observe peace-making at work.
