12:30 PM - 2:30 PMThe second film this fall is Rose's Songs, which takes place in Autumn 1944, in Budapest. Amid ghettos, yellow stars, and Arrow Cross terror, despair grips the city. Yet once a week, from a villa’s tower room, a beautiful song lifts the spirits of those hiding inside. The voice belongs to Imre Rose, a world-famous opera singer—and Jew—who refuses to flee despite his powerful connections abroad. His caretaker, Géza Halász, shares Friday dinners with him before the hope-filled concerts begin, though Rose himself never engages with the refugees below. Only Tommy, the caretaker’s curious son, dares to question the mystery of the singer’s seclusion. As Tommy uncovers the secret of the tower room, he is transformed by the turbulent days that force him into adulthood. Based on true events, The Songs of Rózsa tells a story of music, mystery, and resilience in the darkest of times. Space is limited—please sign up in advance.
