Join Our Tzedek Team, Sisterhood, and The Reform Movement's 2020 Civic Engagement Campaign to Get Out The Vote in November!

This issue is important for so many reasons. Did you know. . .

1. From 2014 to 2016, sixteen million voters were purged from voting rolls
2. In many states, stricter voter ID Is now required...

7% of Americans lack a government issued ID
13% of African Americans lack a government issued ID
10% of Hispanics lack a government issued ID
12% of those living below the poverty line lack a government issued ID

3. Under stricter laws, a Native American tribal government id is not acceptable
4. Felons who have served their terms are disenfranchised from voting
5. From 2012-2018, 1,688 polling places have been closed in 13 states

What can we do?

  • Combat Voter Suppression:  Send postcards to people where massive voter purge has occurred.  We have started this effort, and you can join us.  All supplies, including postcards, lists and what to write are provided.  Contact Arlene Pressman to join this team
  • Mobilize voters:  We’d love to see 100% of eligible Temple Shalom voters vote this year.  Sign this pledge form and encourage your friends to do the same.  Contact Carol Berlin for more information about other ways to work on this initiative.
  • Engage Student voters:  Are you a student?  Join our conversation and become involved, encouraging students to register.  Attend training provided by the Religious Action Center for Reform Judaism.
  • Fill out your census form:  Many decisions that affect voting, federal money, and representation is based on census information.  It is critical that you fill out these forms, and encourage anyone you know to do the same!
  • Make a donation: Visit our Donations Page and contribute to our Sisterhood or Social Justice funds to help support out GOTV activites.

Watch for future information about a program that will address these issues!
