Jewish mysticism has its roots in the Middle Ages, but then spread like wildfire through Eastern European Jewish communities during the 18th and 19th centuries. One of mysticism’s central teachings is that from the first day of creation forward, every physical object contains a divine spark of light. It is our job to seek out these sparks, and by the intention and respect with which we treat all beings and things, it is our imperative to release the sparks to rejoin the divine cosmos. In this discussion class, we will study selected Jewish mystical teachings, and try to uncover what meaning they have for us today. Can we access these texts and visions in such a way that they enrich the way we see the world and act in it? Register now.
